No Plane Ticket Required: Day-Tripping to Lula Lake from Dalton

Just an hour from Dalton, tucked into the folds of Lookout Mountain is one of the most beautiful places in North Georgia and Tennessee. It’s called Lula Lake Land Trust, and if you haven’t been yet, consider this your official invitation to visit a stunning natural preserve.

A Hidden Gem in Your Own Backyard

There’s something about Lula Lake that doesn’t quite feel real. Maybe it’s the 120-foot waterfall. Maybe it’s the way the trails are just rugged enough to make you feel like you’ve really gone somewhere, even though you’re less than an hour from home.

For those of us in Greater Dalton, it’s just part of the landscape we get to call ours.

What You’ll Find at Lula Lake

Lula Falls: The crown jewel. A powerful, multi-tiered waterfall that’s even more impressive in person. When it’s warm, you can even swim! Check the website, but dogs are welcome at Lula Lake.

Trails for all levels: Whether you’re bringing the kids, the dog, or your weekend hiking crew, the Land Trust offers a variety of well-marked trails that feel wild, but accessible.

Open Gate Days: Lula Lake isn’t open daily—you’ll need a reservation for select weekends, but that’s part of what keeps it protected and peaceful. Make your reservation here →

Dalton is a Great Home Base for Adventure

Lula Lake is one more reason why living in Greater Dalton is about more than just what’s in town; it’s also about what you can reach from here.

You don’t need a plane ticket or a travel guide to find awe-inspiring beauty. You just need a free Saturday, a short drive, and a sense of adventure.

This is what we mean when we say Dalton is different. You can raise a family here, build a business here, fall in love with the pace of life here, and still find yourself standing in front of a roaring waterfall an hour later.
