“Business brought me to Dalton, but the people kept me here. The schools are outstanding, and people really treat you as “homefolk” even if you weren’t born here. I remember Hugh Kemp showing us the town and pointing out the arts institutions and talking about the cultural history as well as the industrial history, and how our community was made for families.
We are blessed with challenging hiking trails, state and local parks. We have history that continues to be told at Prater’s Mill and Dalton Little Theatre’s Spirit Walk of West Hill Cemetery, and we embrace new opportunities with new history to be made through active theater, dance, cultural festivals and even sports communities. Plus, most importantly: we have the best tacos anywhere! There is always something to do in Dalton—many times, it is which one to do instead of what to do!
Dalton is a great place to work and serve the community. At United Way of NW GA, I work with caring staff and volunteers who give their time to actually make our community a better place. The organizations that work with UW have the same goals to help everyone achieve their true potential and well-being. Our United Way is successful because this community finds value in helping others.
There was a point in my life when I could have moved back to Stone Mountain where I grew up, but I realized that home was Dalton. When I see Rocky Face Ridge to the west and Fort Mountain and Grassy Mountain to the east, I am filled with pride that I live in the North Georgia mountains where we cherish our environment and quality of life equally!”
